Honoring "One"

A friend said, "...really, a 1st birthday party thrown by the parents is actually a celebration for themselves--a congratulations on making it a whole year without strangling their own kid!" An experienced observation. Actually, throwing Waylan a "One" party was our pleasure and a worthwhile event. Baby Waylan is a socialite and loves physical activities of any kind, especially when there are other kids around (no matter the age or species)--he's entertained by all. So, it was a "given" to do a swimming party with friends, family, and "Rap-tar" (the pinata). When it's not "party time", reaching, standing, wiggling (sometimes all at once), while re-organizing drawers and unloading cupboards makes for one busy boy. Also, something we call "The Gettings Game" is the fun pastime of late. It starts when we chase Waylan around the house and "get him!" He pretends not to want a "gettings" by crawling away at an unusually slower pace than normal, turning his head back to see if one of us is gaining on him. He freaks out and giggles incessantly becuase he knows that he is about to be "gotten". Eventually mom or dad succeeds with much embelished and theatrical effort. The result is priceless baby laughter, quickly melting the inner-anxieties of any difficult day. More party pictures to come...
